La Chave, Montcuq, Lot, France

Website designed by Property Promotion © www.property-promotion.co.uk

The Lot region lives up to it's promise, 'Une surprise a chaque pas' - a surprise at every step! Round every corner is a different view, every valley producing different crops, vines and vegetables, making visitors feel very much a part of the French countryside.

For shopping, the medieval towns of Montcuq and Cahors, with their narrow winding streets, are waiting to be explored.  Both have excellent supermarkets and colourful weekly markets, and during the summer months there are markets and antique fairs every day of the week in neighbouring towns and villages.  This is an area known for its fine regional produce, including duck, foie gras, truffles, walnuts and melons, and of course the full-bodied Cahors wine from local vineyards, where visitors are welcome to taste and buy.

Things to do nearby include Tennis in Cezac (5 mins),  Riding (5 mins),  Golf (15 mins), Canoe and Bike Hire (25 mins), and excellent walking all around. Montcuq Leisure Lake has a  beach and play area.  Boat trips on the Lot river at Cahors.

Places to visit within an hour’s drive include Rocamadour in the north of the Lot, dramatically built on a cliff, and to the  west from there, in the Dordogne, the fabulous topiary gardens of Eyrignac. To the east of Cahors on the River Lot, Saint-Cirq Lapopie, one of the prettiest villages in France. To the south east, St Antonin Noble Val, where the film “Charlotte Gray” was made, and the beautiful artists’ village of Cordes sur Ciel, all in the well known wine region of Gaillac.

“There are obvious reasons why the Dordogne and Lot are two of the most visited departments in France – gorgeous scenery, sunshine, lovely rivers to play in, Lascaux and a score of other prehistoric caves, fairytale castles every few miles and good-natured villagers whose friendliness contradicts the French reputation for aloofness. But if you  linger for more than a few days, you will also become aware of a quality rare at the end of the 20th century: a vanishing, unhurried way of life – a quality which even a hundred years ago would have been dismissed as old-fashioned, even backward. This gentle pace of life is an enviable luxury...”
